One-Skein EZ Hat Project for the Holidays!

While everyone else is counting down their shopping days, knitters are keeping track of how many days they have left to work up something cozy to give to their loved ones. Last Friday at knitting breakfast I asked the group what type of garment they make when they knit gifts for the holidays, and everyone answered in near perfect unison: "hats!"

So, if you are still casting about for knitted gift ideas, I'd like to suggest our modification of one of our favorite hat patterns, the Maltese Fisherman's Hat, from Elizabeth Zimmermann (of course!) using just one skein of one of our favorite yarns, Morehouse Bulky. This is a very fast knitting project and extremely affordable as well:

The version, above, is in Willow. Here it is again, below, in one of the lovely variegated colors:

If you've never worked with Morehouse Bulky, you are in for a treat. It is soft and homey, straight from the farm in Red Hook, NY. It isn't unusual to find little bits of hay in the skein as you're knitting.

The hat pattern is available in KNITTER'S ALMANAC by Elizabeth Zimmermann, and if you purchase the book or the yarn from us we'll send you our own version of the pattern with our modifications for making the hat with just one skein of Morehouse Bulky for free! Just write "Fisherman's Hat" in the notes during checkout.

The yarn is available here. You'll also need one pair of 16” size 13 circular needles, and one set of size 13 double-pointed needles, available here.

Still need more motivation? Use the discount code LAUNCH15 for 15% off a one-time purchase online! (Expires 12/14/09)
See you at the shop...and now onlineHappy holiday knitting.
